Cold and flu season is here. Are you ready?

Stay healthy with these tips

You probably already know to wash your hands and dress for the weather to prevent sickness.   Here are some more tips to keep your immune system on track this winter:

  1. Be mindful of what you are eating.  Limit refined sugar and eat fresh as much as possible. Make it a habit to include colorful foods on your dinner plate, like peppers, salad, and tomatoes.  Make sure to include probiotics; these can be found in yogurt with active or live cultures, kefir, and pickles. All these will help your body fend off sickness.
  2. De-Stress.  Stress produces cortisol which can suppress the immune system.  Too much stress for too long can increase your risk of serious illness, like heart disease and cancer.   To beat stress, try meditation/yoga, comedy, and spending time with friends.
  3. Get your nervous system checked out.  Chiropractic care can help boost your immune system.  All your nerves and organs are connected to your spine.  Any dysfunction or subluxation can cause the immune system to be weakened.  Give us a call to make sure your spine is aligned.
  4. Get a good night’s sleep.  Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day.  An adult should get between 7-9 hours of sleep every night.   If you are having trouble sleeping, ask our advice about the type of mattress and pillow you are using.  Finally, turn the screens off. Light keeps you awake, and our devices tempt us to stay up late which can weaken our immune system and cause other health problems.

A healthy immune system is necessary for fighting off illness.  Try these tips, and come in to see us at Fonke Chiropractic in Cary-  we will make sure you are in your top shape to fight disease this winter.
