Degenerative Disc Disease

Definition

human spine antique medical illustrationAlso called Osteoarthritis, Degenerative Disc Disease is something that most people will experience at some point in their lives to a certain degree.  This is “wear and tear” arthritis in the spine.  Based on lifestyle and stress level, Degenerative Disc Disease can have a greater and earlier effect on someone.  Poor posture, excessive weight, inactivity, physical labor job, years of repetitive stress, and spine being out of alignment can cause the premature development of Degenerative Disc Disease.  DDD used to be an older person’s disease, and unfortunately DDD is now being diagnoses in people as young as 25.  If Degenerative Disc Disease progresses enough, it can have a significant impact on a person’s retirement/golden years.  It can prevent a person from having he quality of life they desire by limiting their mobility and causing pain.   If someone has lost height as they have aged, it is most likely due to Degenerative Disc Disease.
